Physics Department of IPB University Hands over Biocomposite Bicycle Helmet to the Governor of DKI Jakarta
[17 Dec 2021] The IPB University innovation team handed over the innovation results of bicycle helmets made from empty fruit bunches to the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan. The helmets were officially handed over at the Jakarta City Hall, 17/12.
The bicycle helmet with fiber-reinforced Empty Palm Oil Bunches (TKKS) “Green Composite” is an innovation from the Physics Department of IPB University with the inventor Dr Siti Enjoys. This innovation is part of the Matching Fund Kedaireka 2021 program organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology.
This bicycle biocomposite helmet has two variants, namely army and sporty. The helmet has the advantages of being lightweight, absorbing heat, environmentally friendly, a national product from IPB University for Indonesia. These helmets are also comfortable to wear and have superior strength over polymer helmets.
Dr. Siti Enjoys explained that the innovation was made from solid palm oil waste and was produced by involving farmer groups around the village of oil palm plantations, industrial partners and micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) and students in the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) program.
Currently, biocomposite bicycle helmets have been commercialized by IPB University tenants, namely PT Interstisi Material Maju and MSME partner PT Ecodue Widya Cadia Internasional who were also present at the bicycle helmet delivery activity at the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.
Also present at the helmet handover were the Dean of FMIPA IPB University Dr Berry Juliadi, Head of the Physics Department of IPB University Dr Tony Sumaryada, Head of the Applied Physics Division and research member, Dr Irmansyah, research partner of PT Astra Honda Motor, Dwi Arso Yedi Irwanto and representatives of MBKM students, Dhiya Ulayya Thabitah.
The Dean of FMIPA IPB University, Dr. Berry Juliadi said, this activity is a form and effort to reduce carbon emissions and create a clean environment through cycling in DKI Jakarta.
In his remarks the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anis Baswedan welcomed the innovation of bicycle helmets made from TKKS bicomposite. He said the helmet innovation was very interesting. According to him, the innovation supports research-based domestic products. He admitted that he was willing to help introduce this bicycle helmet more widely.
On this occasion also presented scientific papers from Prof. Husin Alatas and his team in providing solutions to flooding in Jakarta. (*) (IAAS/ADV)
