Inaugural Meeting of Physics English Club

The inaugural meeting of the Physics English Club was held on Monday, November 18, 2024, in the Physics Seminar Room. The event was attended by 17 students from Department of Physics, representing various academic years. The activity was supported by HIMAFI (Physics Student Association) in promoting the event.

The meeting was opened by Annisa Tsalsabila, M.Si, who introduced the club’s name, PEACE (Physics Enthusiast and Conversation in English), and outlined its planned activities. These include conversation, cultural exchange, physics update, scholarship essay discussions, English test preparations, and job/scholarship interview simulations.

The primary goal of PEACE is to accommodate the enthusiasm of physics student in English and to enhance their English skill. The increasing proficiency of English can drive students to participate international exchange programs, secure global job opportunities, or pursue graduate studies abroad.

The first meeting focused on building students’ confidence to speak in English, with the topic of introductions. This session was guided by Rima Fitria Adiati, M.T., discussing essential aspects of introductions tailored for specific purposes, such as outstanding student selections, job interviews, or club gatherings. Participants actively practiced introducing themselves in front of the class, receiving constructive feedback.

The students are divided into four groups of 4-5 peoples. Each group participated in a simulated international meeting scenario, practicing self-introductions that included their name, university, major, and activities. The session encouraged interaction among participants.

One participant, Naura, expressed her enthusiasm, saying “The activity time needs to be longer because it would be a shame if it was only one hour. This is so fun!”. The inaugural meeting of PEACE set a strong foundation for the club, fostering excitement for future activities.
