Physics Department of IPB University Provides Physics Competency Strengthening for SMA/MA Teachers in Belitung

The Physics Department of IPB University visited Bangka Belitung as part of a community service activity with the theme of ‘Strengthening Physics Competency for SMA/MA Teachers in Belitung’. The activity took place at SMAN 2 Tanjungpandan, Belitung.

Participants in this activity were physics teachers from SMA/MA in Belitung and students from SMAN 2 Tanjungpandan. The event began with remarks delivered by the Chairman of the Physics Department of IPB University, Prof R Tony Ibnu Sumaryada WP.

“With this event, it is hoped that it can provide new knowledge and experience for both physics teachers and students of SMAN 2 Tanjungpandan,” he said.

There were two activity sessions in the event, namely material and practicum of several physics experiments. The first session was filled with a presentation of material delivered by Professor of Physics of IPB University, Prof Husin Alatas. The material covered fundamental interactions, gravity, and problems in understanding gravity: extra dimensions.

The second material was delivered by Dr Agus Kartono, a Physics lecturer at IPB University. He discussed measuring the acceleration of gravity using the pendulum method through digital practice. The material presented can strengthen the competence of physics teachers and students of SMAN 2 Tanjungpandan, making it easier to understand physics learning.

The second session was filled with several physics experiments for teachers and students directly related to the material that had been presented. There were three experiments explained and carried out by IPB University Physics lecturers. With these experiments, it is hoped that they can provide new experiences for teachers and students.
