The Applied Physics Division of the Department of Physics at IPB University visited the Electronics Research Center (PRE) – the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) on 26/10. The IPB University delegation was led by Dr Irmansyah, Chair of the Applied Physics Division, and was warmly welcomed by the Chair of the Electronics Research Center, Yusuf Nur Wijayanto, PhD, at KST Samaun Samadikun, Bandung.

Dr Irmansyah explained that there were two purposes for this visit. First, to establish relationships and research collaborations as well as the development of knowledge through various means. Second, to supervise student internships in the Freedom of Learning – Independence Campus (MBKM) platform.

In the discussion attended by several researchers and engineers, an introduction to various national research centers and the focus of their research was presented. Both parties recognized the need for collaboration and alignment of research between universities and research institutions to achieve the best innovations for Indonesia.

“The lecturers from the Applied Physics Division at IPB University have research that aligns with the research groups at PRE BRIN, including in the areas of sensors and electronic devices, solar panel development, biosensors, smart devices, and artificial intelligence,” said Dr Imansyah.

Prof Goib, a senior researcher at PRE, stated that BRIN provides opportunities for students to conduct research through various schemes, including degree-by-research (DBR) for Master’s and PhD programs, research assistant (RA), final projects/theses, and MBKM. During this visit, four students from the Physics department at IPB University had completed two out of six months of their internship.

The event concluded with a visit to the laboratory facilities at PRE. Dr Natalia, the head of the energy research group, enthusiastically demonstrated the process laboratory where domestically produced solar panels were being manufactured. Notably, the group was also invited to observe the progress of the clean room construction and various new equipment that is targeted to be operational in 2024. The hope is that various BRIN facilities can be accessed and utilized as effectively as possible to broaden the scope of research topics and collaborative innovations. (IAAS/Hap)
