Yessie Widya Sari is a lecturer at the Division of Biophysics, Department of Physics, FMIPA IPB. Yessie is also a research fellow of the Center for Biopharmaceutical Studies of IPB, Center for Sustainability and Transdisciplinary Science Studies of IPB, Medical Physics and Biophysics Research Group – Department of Physics, FMIPA UI. Her research fields are Biomedical Materials, Biobased Materials, and Bioenergy. In the field of biomaterials, her area of expertise includes calcium phosphate ceramics and glass microspheres. These are materials currently applied as bone/teeth substitute materials. She also valorizes agricultural byproducts for advanced materials, such as bioplastics. She also has investigated palm oil mill effluent and tofu liquid by-products as biogas resources.
The outcomes of research carried out by Yessie and the team are reflected in her publications as well as intellectual properties. In addition, some of the results were also selected as the Most Prospective Indonesian Innovation according to the Business Innovation Center for 2019, 2020, and 2021, as well as the 2019 Prospective Start Up Candidate according to Ristekdikti.
For her achievements, Yessie has been awarded several awards, including Loreal UNESCO for Women in Science (2018), IPB Tribute to Innovators (2019) and GlobeAsia 99 Most Inspiring Women (2019). In 2020, Yessie was elected as the Working Body of the Indonesian Young Scientist Academy (ALMI-Akademi Ilmuwan Muda Indonesia).
